In this course we are doing mapping of our surroundings. We have to learn this technique to understand our surroundings and finding problems and their possible solution and opportunity for any improvement in it.

Problem identification:

Identifying the problems and opportunity to solve them:

1. Water wastage:

We have a RO water purifier to filter and store drinking water in kitchen. The problem with the RO purifiers is that it throws out 3 times more water than it filters. which is causing major water wastage in our house.

How to avoid it:

To store the waste water and use it for other purpose like cleaning the floor, watering plants, washing cloths etc.

2. Water lever monitoring:

We use water pump to pull the water from underground water tank to fill the over head water tank which is the only water source in my house. It takes 30 minutes to fill that tank but some times if we forgot to turn off the motor switch the tank overflows and water is wasted. also at some point the under water storage tank gets empty and it causes water shortage.

How to avoid it:

To use a water level sensor which will monitor the water level in the tank and will automatically turn on and off the motor switch for required time period so that no water wastage happens.

3. Congested houses:

As my house is in a crowded area surrounded by other houses and buildings, we don’t get direct sunlight in our house which is also causing ventilation problem and disturbance.

4. Network issue :

Due to congested housing we face network issue in our house. For internet wifi router helps but for calling we face network problem.

5. Milk thief :

Every morning when milk man delivers milk packets outside the door. we have to collect the milk packet on time and if we are late to collect the milk some unknown cat punctures the milk packet and drinks all the milk.

How to avoid it:

To keep a box or vessel with a lid outside the door for milk packets.
